Rebranding and Moving E-Discovery Forward
I spoke with David Ahrens, the chief marketing officer of FRONTEO USA, Inc., a publicly-traded global technology and services company that specializes in big data, artificial intelligence, information governance, managed review and litigation consulting for the e-discovery market. He is responsible for developing and executing an integrated marketing and communications plan, which is particularly important given FRONTEO’s rebranding to integrate UBIC North America and its subsidiaries.
We discussed the rebranding, the impact it will have on the company’s business, and the key factors that distinguish FRONTEO from its competition, among other topics. In addition, FRONTEO is sponsoring and participating the Today’s General Counsel exchange on e-discovery on July 18th and 19th at the New York City Bar Association.

What to Expect at the 2015 ABA Techshow
I spoke with Brett Burney, the founder of Burney Consultants and the chair of the 2015 ABA Techshow planning board.
We discussed how the nine-member planning board operates, and what this year’s attendees can expect, from educational sessions in seven concurrent tracks on going paperless and data security, among others, to dynamic networking and an inaugural App-a-Thon. He noted the potential for more than 1,300 lawyers, judges, paralegals, and law students to be walking the halls with 800-1,000 vendors and exhibitors.

Re-engineering the Practice of Law
I spoke with Mark Lassiter, a real estate attorney with the Lassiter Law Firm in Tempe, Arizona, who is also the founder of Lex Projex, a legal project management consultancy, and is now creating a closed legal community to enable attorneys in virtual law firms to provide collaborative services. We discussed his efforts to ‘re-engineer’ the practice of law and the delivery of legal services, the obstacles to promoting this transformation, and skills that legal professionals need to thrive in this new era.

Winning the Defensibility Debate
I spoke with Warwick Sharp, the Vice President of marketing and business development for Equivio, about being a predictive coding and analytics pioneer, and where that technology is headed in 2013. “The market’s relationship with predictive coding has evolved,” he said noting that concerns over defensibility have been dispelled over the last year. In fact, Sharp highlighted that users are less focused on defensibility and more interested in predictive coding education than ever before. “We see a massive catch up among professionals in the industry,” Sharp added.
He predicts that the judiciary will take a more discerning approach to predictive coding and begin defining the appropriate processes, as well as project management techniques.

Reinventing Project Management in Canada
I had the privilege of speaking at The Law Office Management Association’s annual conference in Collingwood, Ontario last Friday and while walking through the exhibit hall following my presentation, I met the team at RBRO Solutions (whose co-CEO won ILTA’s 2011 Consultant of the Year Award) and had the opportunity to discuss the transformation of project management in Canada.
